Turning selfies into romantic, ridiculous Valentine’s portraits - with over a million images generated.
My contribution
I was lead developer on Be My Boo, working with the team at Phantom.
The experience
Following Ghosts of Christmas Cards, Phantom created a Valentine’s portrait generator. Visitors uploaded a selfie and chose from four themes - old school, classy, fantasy or roleplay - to create a personalised card they could share in seconds.
Art direction behind the AI
The team pre-generated thousands of images, then combined them with visitors’ selfies. That approach gave the portraits a consistent mix of romance, humour and nostalgia, with a quick journey that encouraged people to try another theme.
The response
Be My Boo generated over one million images for 241,000 unique users, with an average visit lasting four minutes.
